Bespoke Cabinet Media Wall Installation - Newquay

Bespoke Cabinet Media Wall Installation - Newquay

NEWQUAY | CORNWALL

A beautifully designed media wall should do more than house a television. It should bring together materials, lighting, storage and entertainment technology to create a considered focal point that feels entirely at home within the surrounding interior.

For this project, we designed and installed a bespoke media wall in a new-build property, combining the understated texture of Egger White Chromix with natural oak acoustic slat panels, architectural LED lighting and a contemporary 60-inch electric fire. The finished installation measures an impressive 3.2 metres across, with carefully balanced proportions and integrated audio to complete the experience.

As with every Emotive project, the emphasis was on thoughtful design, precision craftsmanship and ensuring that every detail worked together.

From Initial Consultation to 3D Design

Every successful media wall begins with understanding the space and the client’s vision.

During our initial consultation, we discussed the desired design, took measurements of the chosen wall and explored a selection of wood finishes and acoustic slat panel colours. This allowed us to establish a material palette that would complement the property’s neutral interior while introducing warmth, texture and contrast.

Following the consultation, we produced a bespoke 3D render of the proposed media wall, together with a detailed costing. This gave the client a clear understanding of the intended design, the proportions of the individual elements and the overall investment before work commenced.

We believe this planning stage is essential. It allows us to refine the design, resolve practical considerations and ensure the finished installation reflects the original vision as closely as possible.

A Carefully Considered Combination of Materials

Material selection played a central role in this design.

The floating media wall unit, tall open cupboards and television back panel were specified in EGGER White Chromix. Its subtle concrete-inspired texture provides more visual interest than a plain white finish, while its neutral tone works particularly well alongside natural timber and a wide range of contemporary interior colours.

To complement this finish, we recommended natural oak acoustic slat panels. The warmth of the oak creates a striking contrast against the cooler, understated character of White Chromix, bringing depth and definition to the wall without overwhelming the room.

The combination demonstrates how carefully selected finishes can elevate a media wall beyond a conventional TV installation, creating a bespoke feature that feels integrated with the wider interior.

Bespoke Floating Cabinetry and Architectural Proportions

At the heart of the installation is a custom-designed floating cabinet arrangement spanning 3.2 metres.

The main floating unit incorporates a 60-inch electric fire, with bespoke cupboard storage at either end. The long, uninterrupted lines create a clean architectural appearance, while the floating design maintains a sense of openness across the room.

Above, the television is mounted onto a bespoke White Chromix back panel, sized specifically for the client’s 65-inch TV. We carefully considered the proportions of the panel to leave an aesthetically balanced border around the screen, allowing the finish to frame the television without dominating it.

Either side of the central slatted feature, we built tall open cupboards with integrated lighting. These were deliberately constructed at a shallower depth than the floating cabinet below. This subtle difference introduces contrasting lines and depth, creating a more interesting composition while maintaining a sense of symmetry across the overall design.

The result is a media wall in which every cabinet, panel and recess has a defined purpose, both visually and practically.

Integrated LED Lighting for a Refined Finish

Lighting was an important part of the design, helping to emphasise the materials and introduce atmosphere without distracting from the main feature.

We specified natural white COB LED lighting to create our signature TV halo effect behind the television panel. This concealed illumination produces a soft, even glow around the screen, adding depth to the installation and creating a more comfortable viewing environment.

The same lighting approach was incorporated into the tall open cupboards, where vertical illumination highlights the textured surfaces and enhances the architectural lines of the recesses.

By integrating the lighting into the design from the outset, we were able to achieve a clean, considered finish without visible strips or unnecessary visual clutter.

Precision Installation in a Challenging New-Build Property

Although the finished media wall appears clean and symmetrical, achieving that result presented several technical challenges.

The property’s new-build construction featured Thermalite blocks, which required careful consideration when fixing the substantial floating cabinetry securely to the wall. Supporting the weight of bespoke units demands appropriate fixing methods and meticulous preparation, particularly where the underlying construction presents additional challenges.

The wall’s dot-and-dab plasterboard finish also introduced variations in the surface, leaving sections approximately 10mm out of line. Rather than allowing these imperfections to compromise the finished appearance, we planned the installation sequence around them.

By fitting the acoustic slat panels after the cabinetry, we could conceal the uneven sections of the wall and achieve a much cleaner visual transition between the different elements.

The ceiling presented another challenge, as it was not completely level. To ensure the vertical slat panels finished neatly against the ceiling line, each panel required careful scribing and precise plunge-saw cutting.

These details are rarely the first things people notice when looking at a completed media wall. However, they are fundamental to achieving the precise alignment, consistent spacing and professional finish that distinguish bespoke installation work from a standard off-the-shelf solution.

At Emotive, we believe the quality of an installation is just as much about resolving these hidden challenges as it is about the final appearance.

Integrated Audio: Enhancing the Entertainment Experience

A striking media wall should deliver an equally rewarding entertainment experience.

For this project, we recommended a Samsung Dolby Atmos soundbar. A soundbar was particularly well suited to the design because of its compact footprint, excellent value and impressive performance, allowing us to enhance the television’s audio without introducing bulky equipment or compromising the clean aesthetic.

We specified and supplied a Samsung Dolby Atmos soundbar featuring Wi-Fi connectivity and a wireless subwoofer. This provides a convenient, integrated solution for films, television and music, with the subwoofer adding depth to the low-frequency effects that bring cinematic soundtracks to life.

Dolby Atmos technology can create a more immersive sense of space and movement in compatible content, helping to bring the entertainment experience closer to that of a dedicated cinema room.

Our approach is always to recommend equipment that suits the client’s requirements, the available space and the intended design. Whether that means a discreet soundbar, an enhanced multi-speaker system or a fully integrated Dolby Atmos home cinema, the technology should complement the interior rather than dictate it.

The Finished Result: Bespoke Design, Built Around the Space

This installation brings together everything we value in a bespoke media wall: carefully selected materials, balanced proportions, integrated lighting, practical storage and thoughtfully specified entertainment technology.

The combination of EGGER White Chromix, natural oak slat panels and soft LED illumination creates a contemporary focal point with warmth and texture. The floating cabinetry and integrated electric fire provide a strong architectural foundation, while the illuminated open cupboards introduce depth and symmetry.

Most importantly, the design was developed around the property and the client’s requirements, rather than adapted from a standard product.

From the initial consultation and 3D visualisation through to the technical challenges of installation and the final AV specification, every stage was approached with precision and attention to detail.
