Beyond the Screen: A Bespoke Media Wall with Hidden Dolby Atmos Cinema

At Emotive AV, we believe a home cinema should do more than deliver exceptional sound — it should live beautifully within your home. Our latest installation is a perfect example of how technology and design can work in harmony to create a space that feels both indulgent and intuitive.
This bespoke media wall, designed for a client with a passion for immersive experiences, blends aesthetic elegance with cutting-edge AV performance. Built with precision, the wall features two one metre-wide cupboards with seamless push-to-open doors, offering discreet storage while maintaining a clean, architectural silhouette. Above, four generously proportioned alcoves (40cm tall by 1 metre wide) are softly illuminated with COB LED shelf lighting, merging form and function in a way that’s visually striking yet effortlessly refined.
At the heart of the installation is a 60-inch flame-effect media wall fire, offering multiple lighting modes and a choice of log beds to suit the mood of the room — from warm and natural to cool and contemporary. Mounted above is a 65-inch Sky Glass TV, elegantly installed on a full motion bracket. This thoughtful detail allows the screen to sit flush with the wall — a design choice in line with manufacturer guidelines, which discourage enclosing the TV in a recessed space.
But what makes this space truly special lies in what you don’t see.
An Invisible Dolby Atmos Cinema System
Behind the scenes — quite literally — sits a powerful 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos home cinema system, fully integrated but completely hidden from view. Using JBL in-wall speakers and dual Monitor Audio in-wall subwoofers, we created a dynamic soundstage without compromising the clean visual lines of the space. These components were strategically placed behind a stretched acoustic fabric panel, allowing sound to pass through naturally while remaining acoustically transparent and visually discreet.
JBL angled ceiling speakers deliver immersive surround effects from above, while JBL in-ceiling Atmos channels add height and realism — perfect for film, sports, and high-definition streaming. A Marantz Cinema 70s AV Receiver forms the heart of the system, providing premium amplification and seamless switching between sources, including Apple TV and audio return from the Sky Glass.
All electronics are hidden neatly inside one of the wall cupboards, keeping the space clutter-free and elegant. Control is simple and intuitive — handled entirely via the Sky TV remote or Apple TV remote, ensuring that the user experience remains as smooth as the finish of the cabinetry.
Smart Lighting, Seamlessly Integrated
To complete the space, we installed Philips Hue downlighting, carefully coordinated with our integrated COB LED alcove lighting. By merging both into the Hue ecosystem, the client can now set the tone for movie night, a relaxing evening, or entertaining guests using voice commands, app control, or a stylish wall-mounted switch with pre-programmed lighting scenes.
